Kathmandu, July 07: Concerned over human rights violations in Nepal, rights organisation Amnesty International has said that the issue of rights should be made a focal point in the ongoing peace process between the Nepalese government and Maoist rebels. Amnesty international has appealed to all sections of civil society to make the issue of human rights a focal point in the ongoing peace process between the government and the Maoists, a release by the organisation said. Since, the demands of the Maoists mainly revolves around the constitution, incorporation of the issue in the peace process is essential, they said. The AI delegates, who are here for a week on an inspection visit to learn about the situation of human rights at the time of peace process, said they were concerned about the deteriorating human rights conditions.

The AI has urged all sections of the society to exert pressure on the Maoists and the government so that human rights issues get central place in the ongoing peace process.
The delegates also said the peace-process would not give a positive result unless both parties commit themselves to respect fundamental human rights and pledge to seek solution through peaceful means.
