Stockholm, Oct 22: America's Taylor Dent brushed aside last week's qualifying hiccup in Madrid by returning to winning form with a first-round upset of former champion Sjeng Schalken 6-3 7-5 at the 650,000-euro Stockholm Open.
The 22-year-old, who won back-to-back indoor titles in Bangkok and Moscow, put aside his qualifying defeat at the Masters Series in Madrid, to hammer down 14 aces to send the second seeded Dutchman crashing out yesterday.
"I wasn't prepared in Madrid, but I spent last week here preparing," said the winner. "Any win can be enough to get back on a roll. But I'm not good enough to look past one win at a time."
Dangerous outsider Dent won his 28th match of the season in convincing style and next plays compatriot Robby Ginepri.
