Lucknow, June 28: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today underlined the need for active cooperation of voluntary and non-governmental organisations in providing better medical facilities to the people.

"Government on its part was making efforts to make available the latest medical facilities to people but this was not enough and voluntary and NGOs could contribute their mite in providing better medical facilities," he said after dedicating to the nation, Madhav Sewa Ashram built by Bhav Rao Deoras Nyas. "The aim of our government is to provide 'Rog Mukt Samaj' (disease free society) and funds have been earmarked for improving medical facilities but government efforts alone would not suffice", he added.

The Sewa Ashram built with the help of prime minister's MP's fund would provide lodging facility for the relatives of the patients who come to nearby Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate institute of medical sciences from far flung areas of the state for specialised treatment. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Mayawati announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh for the Sewa Ashram.
