Shimla, Oct 24: Himachal Pradesh has been adjudged the best state in the field of reproductive health and family planning by the Population Foundation of India (PFI). The state has been awarded for its achievements in terms of decline in infant mortality and fertility and improvement in female literacy, school enrolment and reproductive health, a PFI release said today.

Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat would present a trophy and Rs 10 lakh in the cash to the state at a function on November 07 in New Delhi, it said. PFI is an NGO set up in 1970 by Bharat Ratna J R D Tata and few other industrialists, for the cause of human welfare through family planning, productive and child health services and other population and development policies.

The tribal district Lahaul Spiti was adjudged the best performing district in reproductive and child health programmes in the country, the release added.
