Chandigarh, June 29: Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala today said that the remaining portion of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link canal would be completed within a year and Haryana's share of water would flow through it. "After the completion of SYL canal within a year in Punjab there would be no shortage of water for irrigation in the state", Chautala said addressing a public meeting here.

He said the canal will irrigate 7.5 lakh acres of additional land. The water of Bhakra canal which was being used for irrigation in southern parts of Haryana would be utilised for other areas of the state after the completion of SYL canal, he added.

Chautala disclosed at another function in Sirsa that the state government had formulated a plan to utilise the surplus rainwater of Ghaggar and Yamuna rivers for irrigation purpose.

Meanwhile, a Rohtak report said the Haryana state unit of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) will organise 'jalyudh tyari abhiyan yatra' covering 12 districts of the state from July 17 to 28 to apprise the people of the Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue.

The aim of the yatra is to prepare people for participation the struggle for early completion of the canal to bring Haryana's share in the Ravi-Beas waters, state RLD president Swami Indervesh told reporters here today.
