Indore, July 12: Information and Broadcasting Minister Ravishankar Prasad said on Friday that those opposing the Conditional Access System (CAS) had vested interest behind it.
Claiming that CAS will bring revolution in the country on the lines of computer, internet and mobile revolution, Prasad described it as a ‘technological empowerment of viewers’ giving them freedom to watch channels of their choice.
Prasad, talking to reporters at the Indore Press Club here, said government would stick to the deadline it has set for the implementation of CAS in the four metros and denied that it would further postpone it.
With the implementation of CAS viewers would be able to watch 70 channels for Rs 72, he said, adding, the government is ensuring that the viewer will get set-top-box by paying Rs 21 per month along with a deposit of Rs 500-800.
In reply to a query on developing set-top boxes first in India and then implementing the system, the Minister said the manufacturers would do so only when there was a market for it. Bureau Report
