Allahabad, Feb 23: BJP today asked opposition parties to cooperate with the Centre in resolving the Ayodhya issue instead of criticising its decision to move the Supreme Court on the issue.
The government has taken a bold step by moving the Supreme Court with an aim to resolve the Ayodhya issue and the Opposition should extend support in reaching an amicable resolution of the dispute, senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra told reporters here. Mishra said that Congress and other "so-called secular parties" like the Samajwadi Party and the communists should desist from generating communal disharmony by implying that the government's initiative was aimed at handing over the undisputed land to the Ramjanmabhomi Nyas Samiti for construction of Ram temple.

Political parties need not try to divide the society for electoral and political benefits as the dispute can be resolved either through a judicial verdict or mutual agreement between Hindus and Muslims, the BJP leader said.

On VHP's demand for immediate handing over of the undisputed land for construction of ram temple, Mishra said that the outfit was free to pursue its agenda. "The VHP is a cultural organisation and is free to make its legitimate demands, including land for construction of Ram temple at Ayodhya," he said.
He also stressed that the Vajpayee government had not decided to move the apex court by caving in to pressure exerted by the VHP.
