India's First Underwater Train: This Train Runs Under The River – Check Fare, Route
India's First Underwater Train: You may have seen trains running through hilly areas, forests, over the river and ocean bridge many times and many of you may have travelled on them. But today, we are going to talk about a train that runs underwater.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first underwater metro on March 6 this year.
A part of this special metro line runs beneath the Hooghly River. It is a section of the Kolkata Metro's Esplanade line. This metro train connects Howrah and Salt Lake City, located on either side of the Hooghly River, covering a distance of 16.5 km.
Kolkata's underwater metro is the country's first metro to run under the water. Built at a cost of approximately Rs 4,965 crore, this metro has been opened for passengers. The underwater section of the route spans 4.8 kilometres beneath the Hooghly River. The train takes 45 seconds to cover this distance.
Howrah Metro Station is built 33 meters below the ground. The country's deepest metro station, located beneath a river tunnel is 32 meters below the water level. This metro line has 12 stations, three of which are located underwater.
This underwater metro provides passengers with 5G internet connectivity. India's first underwater metro has been built using world-class technology. In the tunnel beneath the Hooghly River, not a single drop of water can enter the train.
Stainless steel has been used to construct this tunnel, and Earth Pressure Balance Tunnel Machines were used to create the tunnel beneath the river.
The ticket fare for the underwater metro starts at Rs 5 and goes up to Rs 50, depending on the distance. The fare starts at Rs 5 for the first two kilometers and reaches Rs 50 for the longest distance. (Representative Images)
