New Delhi, Aug 26: I have a compulsive disorder: I simply love to shop. Being an actress, I get to travel all over the world, meet exciting people, and discover the joy of shopping. KL is a fashion label hunter’s paradise – there’s no corner of the city without a shopping centre, or a snazzy supermarket, or quaint push carts where you can pick up stuff. The city also allows you plenty of time to shop, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday. The first floor of the impressive Suria KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Centre) has just the kind of labels I love buying: Gianni Versace, Christian Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hermes, Seeger. Another of my favourite haunts is the KL Plaza on the Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Mile, where I like to check out the designer boutiques. You get amazing suits (in wool and linen), evening dresses, smart casuals and fancy leggings at pretty decent prices. You can also find great men’s accessories: pens and timepieces, for instance.

Suria KLCC is also the best place to buy fancy watches and jewellery. You’ll find gorgeous diamond pendants and rings priced at US$1,500-3,000. The Starhill Shopping Centre is another place that stocks the latest in designer labels: Christian Dior, Celine, Gucci and Etienne Aigner. The East West Arcades in Mutiara Kuala Lumpur Hotel have some of the most exclusive boutiques that offer very competitive rates. The Mall located across the Putra World Trade Centre is another place you shouldn’t miss, especially if you’re a compulsive shopper like me.
The best time to go to KL is during the Mega Sale Carnival, which takes place 3 times a year: March, August and December. You’ll get fabulous discounts (up to 70 per cent), but you’ve got to learn to cope with the crowds. If you’re looking at bargains, then avoid the bigger boutiques and head for Little India or China Town, where your haggling power will decide how much stuff you can bring back.

Compared with Singapore, KL offers very reasonable rates for the best designer outfits and accessories. Don’t miss the shopping experience when you are in KL – it’s sheer pleasure just being able to pick from among the best.
