Akola, May 27: Curfew was clamped in Malkapur tehsil town in Buldana district of Maharashtra following agitation over the death of a youth in police detention, official sources said today. The 25-year-old youth identified as S K Nazir, resident of Parpetha area of the town, was brought to Malkapur police station yesterday for questioning in connection with theft of goats, they said.

As soon as the news of Nazir's death spread, a mob of over 500 people gathered in front of the police station and pelted stones. The mob also pelted stones at the hospital where Nazir was admitted. Curfew was clamped in the area last night, police said adding that the situation was now under control. Additional police force has been deployed and senior police officials were camping in the area.
