New Zealand totally dominated on the second day of the third Test, as Nathan Astle and Adam Parore took the overnight score from 293-7 to 467 without further loss.
In the unbeaten partnership of 186 from 375 balls, Astle took his own score to 129 not out, while Parore was unbeaten on 74.
It was a new eighth wicket record for the Kiwis, beating the previous mark of 144 between Chris Cairns and Dion Nash against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2000-01.
It was Astle's seventh Test century and, having passed the landmark, he continued to treat Australia's much vaunted attack with disdain.
The New Zealander hit Glenn McGrath for three boundaries in the 45th over of the day, reaching his century with the third four which he pushed stylishly through the covers.
The right-hander's century came in 302 minutes off 203 balls with 15 boundaries.
