Patna, Mar 21: In a new twist to the recent engineer abduction issue, Bihar police have recommended a probe by CBI following prima facie evidence of nexus between some policemen and inter-state gangs in the case. The decision was taken after an inquiry revealed that Kedarnath Prasad, chief engineer of public health engineering department in Jharkhand, abducted from Nalanda, was released after paying ransom, dig(provision) and state police spokesman Rituraj said today. It has prima facie been established that some policemen having links with the gangs were responsible for the abduction, he said adding "we have recommended to the state government to approach CBI for a thorough investigation."

"We don't want to take the credit for the release of the engineer ... Had that been so the police would have arrested the abductors. Kedarnath was released after paying ransom." Dig of police (Patna zone) Ravindra Kumar had yesterday said Prasad was released by his abductors at Patna Railway junction after being in captivity for a fortnight following police pressure.
Prasad was kidnapped on March 4 by unidentified criminals at Bihar's Nalanda district while he was on way to Patna from Ranchi on private work. The incident had triggered widespread protest. Another engineer was abducted from Saharsa two months ago and is yet to be freed. His abductors have demanded ransom for his safe release.
