Srinagar, Sept 26: The opposition National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir today came down heavily on the Mufti Sayeed coalition government's decision to mortgage state land to financial institutions for raising funds for power projects. Describing the decision as "undemocratic and anti-people", Former Minister and senior NC leader Ali Mohammad Sagar accused the state government of compromising the political, constitutional and economic rights of the people. Assailing the government move to mortgage state land to financial institutions outside the state, he pointed out that they could further mortgage the precious state property to non-state subjects, which would be in violation of the state constitution. He also critricised the coalition government for entrusting vast political and administrative powers with the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council by amending the original Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Act without bringing the same before the legislature. Sagar said in a statement that the proposal of granting compensation to evacuee property tenants rather than the original owners of the property was totally against the spirit of the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir.
