Patna, May 16: The Railway Coach Factory at Kapurthala is in the process of developing fire-proof coaches using steel frames to check incidents of fire in running trains, Railway Minister Nitish Kumar said here today. The Railway Coach Factory was asked to design a prototype of the fire-proof coach in the wake of the Godhra incident, said Kumar.
Stating that the prototype was expected to be ready in three months, he said after its successful test, the Railway Coach Factory would be asked to produce them on a mass scale to be used by the railways. Referring to A P J Abdul Kalam`s visit to Bihar, Kumar said the President would leave Patna station by a special train for Harnaut on May 30 to lay the foundation stone of the rail coach workshop.
