Bangalore, Nov 06: Aviation major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has bagged an order to produce 25 pilotless target aircraft "Lakshya" and plans to deliver them next year, its chairman N R Mohanty announced today. "We are going to get an initial order for 25 PTA, and we propose to deliver them next year", Mohanty told reporters after attending a function here. Indian Air Force, navy and DRDO were the customers for "Lakshya", he added.

Mohanty said Lakshya would be fitted with indigenously developed engine. "Flight trials have proved successful". According to defence officials, Lakshya is a surface/ship launched high subsonic re-usable aerial target system with under wing expendable tow bodies as sub-targets. It is designed for training land or ship based gun and missile crew and air defence pilots in weapon engagement.

On Jaguar two-seaters, Mohanty said HAL, a defence PSU, has an order for 17 numbers and would deliver them in two years time, starting from next year. He said IAF has indicated to HAL that it needs light Attack Helicopters (LAH) and expressed confidence that firm orders would be placed with it by the end of the current financial year.

Officials said LAH is a spin-off of HAL's flagship product Advance Light Helicopter (ALH) and would have improved features over the latter in the areas of weight, lower visual signature and reduced radar cross section.
