Aizawl, Oct 26: Barring the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) and Congress, other political parties in Mizoram have announced the names of their candidates with the notification for the state assembly polls being issued tomorrow.
The Mizoram People's Conference (MPC) would field party president and leader of the opposition in the state assembly Lalhmingthanga in Lunglei South constituency.
The MPC, founded by former Chief Minister Brig T Sailo, has 12 legislators in the current 40-member state assembly. Sources in both the MNF and the state PCC said their candidates would likely to be announced tomorrow or Tuesday.
Sources said the recent resignation of MPC legislator J Lalthangliana from the assembly, who intended to contest from Phuldungsei constituency on a MNF ticket delayed the announcement of the MNF candidates. The list of state Congress candidates was being taken to Delhi by former Chief Minister and party chief Lal Thanhawla for final approval of the AICC and was likely to return tomorrow.
The state unit of BJP, which intended to contest in 16 constituencies, announced names of eight candidates including top leaders like former minister P Lalbiaka and Vanlalngaia, who would contest from Tlabung and Kawrthah constituencies respectively.
V F Lalzarliana, president of the state BJP unit, however, announced that he would not contest the polls. Bureau Report
