Phagwara, May 31: Timely action by the station master prevented a fire in the Amritsar-bound Shane-e-Punjab Express train at the Phagwara railway station in Punjab today. Senior manager operation (Ferozepur division) Nar Singh told a news agency on phone that the traction motor which powers the engine started emanating smoke due to overheating as the train entered the station at 1.42 PM. The station master Ram Pyare who observed the smoke immediately alerted the engine driver and other railway officials and within three minutes the engine was de-coupled from the train, he said. Fire Brigade were also requisitioned at the railway station but the traction motor cooled down. The 2497 UP Shane-e-Punjab was coming to Amritsar from Delhi.
