Srinagar, July 27: Asking the Centre to send security forces back to barracks, the Hurriyat Conference today said all concerned parties should make the move for cessation of hostilities to facilitate the return of peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
Welcoming hardline Pakistani lawmaker Fazal-ur-Rahman's call to militants to stop operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Hurriyat chairman Maulana Mohammad Ansari said, "We welcome any move for joint ceasefire which would create a conducive atmosphere for the Indo-Pak talks."
"Hurriyat supports the move of cessation of hostilities but it should be made by all sides. New delhi should send all its security forces back to barracks and militants should down their guns," he told a news agency reacting to the call for a ceasefire by Pakistan's opposition leader and chief of Jamait-e-ul-Islam after returning home from a trip to India. Hurriyat wants that the talks between India and Pakistan should be held at the earliest so that the logjam on Kashmir is broken.
"Declaration of truce alone will not help. Much more needs to be done for creating conducive atmosphere for talks," Ansari said.
"Rahman's suggestion is welcome, yet more needs to be done. Line of Control should be made porus to facilitate the movement of people living in the two parts of the state. This will be more powerful confidence building measure than ceasefire," he said. Bureau Report
