Silvis, Sept 11: Micheel's victory at the PGA championship - his first on tour - vaulted him over the 1 million dollars mark. The 1.08 million-dollar prize also was more than he had won in his previous seven years on tour.
"There has been a lot of good things that have been coming off my victory," he said. "But ultimately it's just about getting back to playing good golf and validating some of the things that went along with winning that championship."
Micheel, who joined the tour in 1994, has made 18 cuts this year. He made 21 cuts in 2002 for his most successful year to date.
"I have always wondered what it was like for Tiger and Davis and Justin (Leonard) and all the big names and how they handle that success," Micheel said. "I think that won't be a challenge at all.

"I don't know what lies around the corner. I look at some of the guys like Phil (Mickelson) and Greg Norman and Tiger, I find it is just phenomenal that some of the guys have won 20 events. From a numbers standpoint it's incredible, because you seem to lose more than you win."

Norman will be making a rare appearance when he tees it up today. The Australian has played only seven times in 2003. As if this appearance wasn't rare enough, it will be just his second at this event. "The shark" tied for fourth in 1991.
