Phagwara, Apr 27: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) is likely to field its candidate for Fatehabad assembly by-poll in Haryana and has called a meeting of party activists of the state in Ratia tomorrow in this regard. Senior party vice-president and in-charge of Haryana, Avtar Singh said the constituency in Haryana had a sizeable chunk of Sikh population, which was capable of tilting the balance. "There are about 16,000 Sikhs in the constituency and Mann Dal will keep in mind their issues while deciding about fielding or supporting any candidate," he said adding, "We are against congress and BJP both." Party president Simranjit Singh Mann has also constituted a seven-member panel to study the situation and explore the possibilities for fielding party's own candidate or supporting the candidate of like-minded party in the by-poll. The Fatehabad seat had fallen vacant due to the death of Lila Krishan, a ruling party MLA of Haryana.
The last date for filing nomination papers is May 2.
