New Delhi, Nov 14: The Supreme Court today laid down guidelines for identification of employees of 27 government corporations in Bihar who had not been paid salaries for years together and ordered disbursement of their salaries from the Rs 50 crore fund deposited by the state within six weeks.
This order was passed by a bench comprising Chief Justice V N Khare and Justice S B Sinha while hearing a PIL filed by advocate Kapila Hingorani who was first to point out before
the court that non-payment of salaries had resulted in suicides and starvation deaths in the employees' families.
The apex court had earlier this year directed the state to deposit Rs 50 crore for disbursal of proportionate salaries to the employees and had asked the high court to supervise the disbursal of funds.
The court was told that despite the state government depositing the funds in July this year, the employees have not been paid salaries as the state government officials were not cooperating in the identification of the employees in the corporations.
The bench directed the committee constituted by the high court for the purpose of disbursal of salaries to issue notices to all managing directors and the officers-in-charge of the corporations to bring records of employees for the purpose of identification. Bureau Report
