Silchar (Assam), Aug 29: Two ISI linkmen suspected to be working agents of the Pakistani Intelligence Agency were arrested and fake Indian currency notes totalling Rs 3.5 lakh recovered from them at a village in Assam's Cachar district, police said today. ISI, the police said, was distributing the fake currency notes to destablise the economy of the northeastern region.
The two were arrested during a raid by the police yesterday following a tip off at village Algapur Part-II.
The police raided the house of ISI linkman Afjur Rahman Choudhury on a tip off that one Ramlung Ruiba had come there with the fake notes. The police caught Ruiba red handed when he was handing over counterfeit Rs 500 notes bundled in seven packets. Ruiba is a resident of Ukrul Bazar area of Manipur and the two were involved in such counterfeit currency trade for a long time using Choudhury's house as a conduit point, the police said.
The two confessed before police that they had purchased the counterfeit notes for Rs 2.40 lakh, the police added. Bureau Report
