Rejecting the Opposition demand for discussion on Gujarat issue under rule 184, Defence Minister and NDA convenor George Fernandes on Saturday said that the government was ready to face no trust motion.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Saturday night after his visit to the relief camps in Vadodara, Godhra and Mehsana and meeting people belonging to all communities, Fernandes said Prime Minister A B Vajpayee has already stated the Opposition could move a no-confidence motion if it wanted to test the strength of the ruling NDA.
"All the NDA constituents are united and debate on this issue is feasible under rule 193 and government is ready for discussion under this rule," he stated.
He said that efforts would be made to evolve a consensus on the issue with the Opposition parties.
Fernandes said that rapprochement and talks between Hindus and Muslims had been convened on April 21 to set in motion the process of reconciliation between the two communities. Bureau Report
