CRS probing Frontier Mail tragedy to hold three-day meet
Ludhiana (Punjab), May 18: Commissioner for Railway Safety Bhupinder Singh, probing the Frontier Mail fire, will hold a three-day sitting here from today during which people, including passengers, who have any information relating to the incident, can appear, officials said.

Singh yesterday he met the 14 injured admitted in hospitals here to have a "first hand account" of the tragedy. He also inspected the four bogies - three fully burnt and one partially damaged - and visiting the site of the mishap near Ladhowal Railway Station, nine kms from here. Later, he went to Amritsar where he inspected the other bogies of the ill-fated train, railway sources said. The S-2 three tier sleeper compartment, which was nearest to the fire-ravaged coaches, was brought back here at his direction and kept in the railway yard here with the damaged coaches.
Sources said the CRS also recorded preliminary statements of some railway officials. Thirty-eight people were charred to death when a fire swept across four compartments of the Frontier Mail in the wee hours of Thursday.
