Manipal, Nov 02: A two-day national level workshop on coastal shipping and road transport system, integration and quality improvement will be held here today.
Director of the Manipal Institute of Management (MIM) Manipal, told reporters here in a press conference here that the water transport proved to be cost effective both in terms of direct and indirect when compared with other transport modes.
He said India was bestowed with 6,000 kilometers of coastal line suitable for the development of the water transport system. This system would reduce the burden on land transport considerably and also help the business sectors to improve their market efficiency and ehance economic growth.
He said government and non-government agencies, industrial units involved in the utilization of water ways, technical experts and researchers in the area of road and water transport would participate in the workshop.
More than 20 eminent personalities and experts were invited to deliberate on the workshop.



T S Ashok Kumar, director, NIPM Ministry of Shipping Government of India Chennai would inaugurate the workshop.
