New York, June 23: Hard rock act Cold has pulled out of its main stage slot on the upcoming Lollapalooza tour. A statement released by the band's representatives says that Cold "will take a short break from the road." Although information is scarce, a spokesperson tells Billboard.com the father of bass tech and temporary bassist Larry Melero has passed away. He has been filling in for Cold's Jeremy Marshall, who has been unable to play since breaking his arm late last month.
According to the band's management, also canceled are the group's planned European dates opening for Staind. That stretch was due to kick off Aug. 27 in London.
Cold has been out on the road for the past four months, touring in support of "Year of the Spider" (Flip/Geffen). In late May, the set debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 208,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The single "Stupid Girl" is in the top-10 of Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks airplay tallies.
Lollapalooza will kick off July 5 in Noblesville, Ind., with Jane's Addiction, Audioslave, Incubus, Jurassic 5, the Donnas, the Distillers and on select dates, Queens Of The Stone Age or A Perfect Circle on its main stage. The tour was due to get underway July 3 in Ionia, Mich., but that date was canceled due to staging and technical issues.
