Patiala, Nov 01: A local court today issued notice for November 04 to Punjab Police on an anticipatory bail plea filed by Punjabi folk singer Daler Mehndi in the illegal human trafficking case. The notice was issued by additional chief judicial magistrate P S Dhanoa on the bail petition filed by the singer`s counsel Anand Parkash.
The case was registered against Daler, his brother Shamsher, who is presently in judicial custody, and three others on October 06 on a complaint of one Bakshish Singh that he had paid Rs 13 lakh out of the Rs 15 lakh demanded for sending him abroad, which was not done. The Delhi High Court, which had granted him interim anticipatory bail till today, had yesterday refused to extend the interim anticipatory bail saying it would not pass any order without hearing the Punjab Police.
Daler Mehndi had failed to appear before the police for the third successive day yesterday. But his counsel told reporters today that they had reported at the Sadar police station at 10.15 pm last night, but no one recorded their presence.
He claimed he went to the police station this morning also, but no one accepted the papers he wanted to submit.
Another counsel of Daler, Ravinder Kumar, said the singer could not come himself as he was unwell and medical certificate in this regard was amongst the documents, which they wanted to submit to the police.
Daler was first scheduled to appear before the police at 10 am yesterday and then at 5 pm. The four-member special investigation team waited for him till 6.43 pm and then called it a day saying the singer`s non-appearance was another instance of his non-cooperation.
