Mumbai, Nov 18: Renowned Pakistani ghazal singer Mehendi Hassan who is undergoing treatment for paralysis at a Karachi hospital will be soon receiving a ''gift'' in the form of an album produced in India mainly by Indian and Paksitan singers. The proceeds from the sale of the album will go to providing financial help to the ailing Ghazal Meastro.
The singers who have already lent their voice for the album 'Salute' are Jagjit Singh, Hariharan, Jaspinder Narula, Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalota and Suresh Wadekar. Some Pakistani singers who have contributed their voices for the cause include Ghulam Ali, Abida Praveen and Humesh Channa.
Farhat Ali Shahazad, who has penned Urdu poetry for Mehendi Hassan in the past has now floated a trust 'senior Artists' Welfare Organisation' to give financial assistance to Mehendi Hassan.
He says 'Salute' is not complete without a rendition by Lata Mangeshkar and they are awaiting her nod. The album should be out in the market sometime in mid-December. All proceeds from the sale of the album would be given to Mehendi Hassan, Farhat said.
According to information received here, Hassan who is in his 80's, is undergoing treatment for paralysis for more than two years. He is also said to be in poor financial health.
