New Delhi, May 11: The Baburao Sanas Ground at Pune began to reverberate with the high-pitched sounds of motorcycles as the 100-plus riders began to tune up for the first round of the MRF National Motocross Championship beginning today.
Even as a curious crowd began to trickle into the ground to take a closer look at the bikes and riders, there was palpable tension and flow of adrenaline in two of the garages in the paddock.
Team TVS Racing and team Yamaha Racing find themselves head-to-head for the second year running in the six-round MRF National Championship, each equipped with the best of riders in the country and imported machinery.
Yamaha will be fielding five imported Y2 series machines that had won many a world championship titles.
On the other hand, team TVS Racing will be unleashing brand-new TVS 125x and TVS 250x bikes, both of which have been designed and developed especially for the motocross events, according to information received here.



Even as the hi-tech bikes evoked considerable interest, the riders, who will be astride these snazzy two-wheelers, are also being closely watched by their supporters.



C Vijay Kumar, the 22-year old national champion, who will be leading the TVS Racing challenge, appeared to be in prime form when he did a few test laps last night.



His performances last year and the victories in Sri Lanka National Championships put him in front of the field as the firm favourite for the open class (foreign bikes) title.
