New Delhi, Aug 31: A grenade was lobbed at the Indian consulate in eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad but it caused no damage to the premises and Afghan Police responded quickly arresting the attackers, official sources here said today. "No one was hurt and there was no damage to the consulate. It is functioning normally and was open today," they said, adding the grenade hurled yesterday did not reach the main building of the consulate which is at present headed by Consul General R Tandon. "The Afghan Police responded with alacrity and apprehended the attackers. Security at the consulate is being further strengthened," they said. "Interrogation of the attackers is on and details will be available in due course," they said.
There have been persistent intelligence reports about plans sponsored by Pakistan and its ISI to create some situation affecting the security of Indian consulates in Jalalabad and Kandahar, the sources said. Bureau Report
