Mumbai, Oct 29: Factionalism in the Mumbai Congress committee has come to the fore again with several partymen demanding removal of Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Kripashankar Singh and Mumbai Regional Congress Committee president Madhu Chavan for alleged anti-party activities, party sources said. Ever since Gurudas Kamat took over as the president of MRCC replacing Murli Deora, a feud is on between the anti-Kamat and pro-Kamat lobbies.
Singh, to counter the pro-Kamat group which is demanding his resignation, has convened a meeting of anti-Kamat leaders today, party sources said. He has also denied the allegations of anti-party activities.
The feud was evident when two different marches were taken out here recently by city Congressmen against the NDA government, clearly bringing out factionailism to the fore.
The latest move to replace Singh and Chavan has been reportedly undertaken by the group of Kamat supporters who submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde demanding replace both the leaders alleged anti-party activities.
Last week, senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel had convened a meeting of Kamat, Sunil Dutt and Deora to patch up the differences.
