According to multiple reports, the title of the world's longest train is "Australian BHP Iron Ore." It’s important to note that this is not a passenger train but a freight train. It first ran on June 21, 2001. The length from the first engine to the last carriage is 7.3 KM. This train, with 8 locomotives and 682 carriages, is used for transporting coal.

In addition to being the longest train, the Australian BHP Iron Ore also holds the title of the heaviest train. This train travels a distance of 275 Km from the Yandi Mine to Port Hedland, taking about 10 hours to complete the journey. It has a capacity of 82,000 tons of iron ore.

The Australian BHP Iron Ore train is not government-operated; it runs on BHP's private railway line. The company designed this railway and train specifically for the transportation of iron ore. Due to decreased demand, the number of carriages has now been reduced to 270, and the number of engines has been cut from 8 to 4.
