Mumbai, Feb 24: Veteran Congressman and former Union home minister Shankarrao Chavan, who was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Bombay Hospital last week, continues to be in a critical condition. Family sources said the 84-year-old leader underwent surgery on Saturday to remove a clot in the brain. He had sustained internal injury after he lost balance and fell down at his residence last week. Chavan, a former Maharashtra chief minister, has been unconscious since the operation. Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, former chief ministers Vilsarao Deshmukh, A R Antulay and Shivajirao Patil-Nilangekar, Irrigation Minister Padamsinh Patil, Home Minister R R Patil, NCP general secretary Gurunath Kulkarni, Mumbai Congress president Gurudas Kamat were among those who called on the octogenarian leader at the hospital.
