Guwahati, Oct 09: The Assam government has requested the Centre to take steps to reduce the distance between border security force watchposts along the Indo-Bangla border to control infiltration from across the border. Minister of State for Home Rekibul Hussain informed the members of the Assam Assembly yesterday that the state government had urged the Centre to reduce the distance between two watchposts from the present six to eight km to two to three km.

There are altogether 150 BSF watchposts along the Indo-Bangla border in Assam.
Replying to a call attention motion of opposition member Pabindra Deka, the minister informed the house that the progress of implementation of Assam accord had been regularly reviewed in the tripartie talks between the representatives of All Assam Students Union, the state and the centre.
