Agra, May 28: The mahant of a temple in lohamandi area of the city has been arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a seven-year old girl, police said here today. The girl's mother had brought the child to the mahant for tantric treatment for hallucination yesterday, they said. The mahant took the girl to a room in the temple on the pretext of treatment. On hearing the cries of the girl, the mother rushed to the spot to discover that her daughter was being reportedly beaten by him, they added.
The mahant, who justified the act while saying that he was trying to tie a talisman on the girl, was later handed over to the police. Bureau Report
