Siliguri, May 15: An uneasy calm prevailed in the Darjeeling hills following killing of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) executive councillor Prakash Theeng. The IGP (North Bengal), Bhupinder Singh told reporters that police had confirmed the names of all four gunmen and the mastermind behind the killing of Theeng at his village Goke under Poolbazar police station on May 13. Despite raids, the culprits were yet to be brought to book. There was every possibility of their sneaking into adjoining Sikkim as the murder took place just five km away from that state, Singh said. Singh said he had talks with his Sikkim counterpart and sought help from Sikkim police to nab the killers. Meanwhile, a GNLF spokesman from Kurseong said that some municipal councillors and executive councillors of DGHC were very worried as they had recently received some threat letters from unidentified persons. The DGHC chairman and GNLF chief, Subash Ghising and his deputy, Hangoo Subba had visited Theeng's house yesterday and condoled his death.
