New Delhi, Sept 08: Irked by cellular operators' plea for withdrawal of legal proceedings against them for blocking WLL calls earlier this year, basic operators have asked TRAI to take strict note of the violations and enforce discipline of regulations with a "heavy hand". "TRAI, having already taken strict note of these violations and having initiated proceedings, it is inconceivable that cellular operators should now apply to TRAI for withdrawal of these proceedings, even while simultaneously propounding the righteousness of their illegal actions," Association of Basic Telecom Operators (ABTO) said in a letter to telecom regulator, TRAI, here.
ABTO contended it was TRAI's duty to enforce the discipline of law, rules and regulations and its various directives "with a heavy hand equally, without discrimination and without fear of favour".
"ABTO urges the TRAI to affirm this position and hopes it will not countenance such actions of wanton indiscipline and breach that have been admittedly committed by these cellular operators," it said.
ABTO's comments have been triggered off by cellular operators' request to TRAI for withdrawal of legal proceedings against them saying initiation of such an action will have an adverse impact on Indian companies in the world market including their relations with foreign partners.
