New Delhi, Sep 01: The Supreme Court today adjourned hearing till Friday on a petition challenging the decision of the government to disinvest its stake in oil PSUs HPCL and BPCL.
The apex court will hear the petition on Friday, when the government is expected to give its reply to the notice issued regarding the disinvestment of PSU oil majors.
On July 25, the court had asked the government to respond to a notice challenging the privatisation of the oil PSUs.
The petition had been filed by the Oil Sector Officers' Association, which argued that a company set up by an act of Parliament needs another act to permit its sale.
On its part, the government had referred the matter to Attorney General Soli Sorabjee after a clamour from the Opposition asking for a debate in Parliament. In his reply, Sorabjee had said no Parliamentary approval was needed for the oil PSU's sale.
