New Delhi, Sept 11: Taking coming assembly elections in four states as a barometer, the BJP has adopted a two-pronged strategy to gauge the mood of the electorate in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi. As part of this strategy, the party has asked independent agencies to undertake surveys to assess the mood of the electorate and enable the party to set right its shortcomings, party sources said.

The strategy, worked out at the one-day meeting of the central office bearers in Bangalore yesterday, also envisages sending teams with the Parivartan Yatras undertaken by its chief ministerial candidates in the four states to interact at the grassroots level. "These teams would fan out among the local populace to gauge the mood of the people and enable the party to get information which it can use for mobilising support," the sources said.

The sources said this, alongwith inputs by its members of Parliament, would give the party the vital information on "its standing among the electorate."

"The party is undertaking these measures since we want to ensure that we are able to bag the four states as they are very important for US in the achievement of mission 2004, which is the Lok Sabha elections," the sources said.
