New Delhi, Dec 15: Department of Information Technology(DIT) has formed a working group headed by its secretary R R Shah to recommend measures to step up education and research in cyber security which would require a budgeted amount of Rs 42 crore. Under the roadmap, the working group would identify thrust areas, industry requirements in terms of hardware and software, estimation of manpower requirement, launch of nationwide information security campaign, development of cyber security related curriculum for it courses, e-learning initiatives and setting up of an information security technology development council, official sources said.

Detailing on the expenditure, they said Rs 30 crore would be required on development of indigenous hardware and software capabilities, while Rs six crore is earmarked for teacher training, course development, lab set-up and Rs 3 crore each for e-learning initiatives and information dissemination.

DIT has suggested formation of a sub-group with members from academic and research institutes like IIT, IISC, DRDO, ISRO, C-Dac, TIFR and industry -- Infosys, Wipro, SCL and certification bodies like STQC to develop cyber security related curriculum for it courses.
The draft terms of reference of the sub-group would be to prepare a list and develop courses in it security to be offered at certificate, diploma, under-graduate and graduate level.
The term of the sub-group could be for a period of 4-6 months and it would submit its report to the working group, which will be formed for a period of three years. Bureau Report
