The sleuths of tax department swooped on the premises of Vandana Luthra Curls and Curves (VLCC) slimming centres and residential premises of its owners, it sources said.
They claimed the department had information about alleged tax evasion by the slimming centre leading to searches, which were expected to continue till Friday morning.
It sources claimed that the owners, who stated their clientele to be nearly three lakh, were showing a low net profit in their income tax returns. The sources alleged that preliminary investigations of documents showed a huge investment by the owners of VLCC in immovable property, fitness equipment, jewellery and luxury items.
The sources said that the searches were on at ten places in the capital and adjoining areas of Gurgaon and Faridabad.
It was also conducting surveys at 10 other franchisee centres located at three other metropolis of the country.
Harish Grover, director of VLCC institute of beauty, health and management, confirmed that some income tax personnel had come to the institute. They came and enquired about certain things, Grover said in an evasive manner.
No other official of the VLCC was available for comments on the income tax raid at its various institutes in the capital and other major cities of the country.
