US warplanes on Thursday mistakenly bombed Afghan militia hunting Al-Qaeda fighters in mountain positions injuring several of them, according to a militia commander quoted by the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).
The commander, Mohammad Aman, also said that militia fighters had taken several hilltop positions near Tora Bora mountain during operations on Thursday and that he was confident that Al-Qaeda would be beaten by Friday. “Today, US aircraft mistakenly bombarded our fighters injuring several of them,” said Commander Aman, the brother and a spokesman of Nangarhar province military commander Haji Mohammad Zaman. The Pakistan-based news agency quoted Aman as saying that militia fighters had launched a massive ground attack against Arab Al-Qaeda fighters hiding in the mountains in eastern Afghanistan. “We have taken some important hilltops and by tomorrow we will take all places,” Aman said, without giving further details.
