Mumbai, Aug 24: Close on the heels of seizure of over 100 cartridges from a slum area in Andheri, police have recovered a bag containing 236 cartridges from a pond at Marve near Malad in north-west Mumbai yesterday. “We received information that a polythene bag containing cartridges was lying in the pond,” according to a senior police official.

“Nobody has been arrested so far and investigations are on to detect the source of the cartridges,” he said. The police had intensified combing operations in the city and had carried out extensive search against illegal storage of explosives following a blast at Jogeshwari in the house of a film technician, who had stocked explosives in his house illegally.

The explosion had left seven dead and 31 injured on July 31. The state was put on high alert following a series of blast in the metropolis in the past nine months.

Police had earlier this month also seized a huge stock of explosive material from Nagla Bunder in Thane from a quarry owner.
