Ahmedabad, Sept 09: Security has been beefed up in the city and other parts of Gujarat, particularly Panchmahals and Vadodara districts, to prevent any untoward incident at the time of immersion processions for Ganesh idols later today.
Most of the additional police and para-military forces have been deployed around Lunawada, Halol and nearby areas of Panchmahals that were rushed to Godhra town following last friday's communal violence during idol immersion festivities, DSP Panchmahals M D Antani told news agencies over phone here.

All arrangements have been made to ensure that the programme goes on without any untoward incident and even the `mohalla' committees have been urged to ask all to maintain harmony, he said.

Meanwhile, city police had recovered three crude bombs from below a bridge yesterday, but managed to defuse them immediately, police sources said.
Additional Commissioner of Police in-charge of Sector II K D Patadia told news agencies that all security arrangements have been made in the city and apart from the 800 odd policemen, additional company of state reserve police and home guards have been strategically deployed.

Even divers would be kept ready on the banks of the Sabarmati River where many devotees are expected to gather following a good spell of rain, Patadia added.
