Dehra Dun, Oct 22: Ten people were killed and two others injured when the jeep they were travelling in fell into Alaknanda River in Chamoli district of Uttaranchal, police said today. The mishap occurred yesterday when the vehicle carrying 13 passengers to Chamoli town from Joshimuth area of the district, rolled down into the river killing ten of them on the spot, they said.
Six bodies have so far been recovered from the river while the search was on for others.
The injured have been admitted to Joshimuth Hospital where their condition is stated to be serious.
A Nepalese national, also travelling in the jeep, escaped unhurt in the mishap. The driver of the vehicle, who was also saved, was later arrested by police.
