Ahmedabad, Sept 17: Deposing before the two-man panel probing the post-Godhra riots, a majority community witness today alleged that armed Muslim mob hacked to death, his
friend, hardly 100 meters away from a police post, and later danced and urinated on his corpse.
Prakashbhai Rajput, an auto-rickshaw driver from Rakhial
area of the city told the panel of Justice (Retd) G T Nanvati
and Justice (Retd) K G Shah that he recognised one person as
Asghar, who was leading the mob.
Rajput said the mob slowly dispersed on its own and he and his other friends, who had taken shelter in the empty police post picked up the corpse of their friend Vijay and took it to Shardaben Hospital in Saraspur.
He also alleged that police had not recorded his eyewitness account till date, despite the murder of Vijay had been registered.
Another witness Vishnu Patel, a resident of Rakhial village, told the commission that on the morning of February 28, he heard announcements from loud speakers in Kalandari Masjid of the area, which said, "kafeero ko kaat dalo" and later a mob of nearly 2,000 Muslims emerged from the same mosque and began vandalising the Meldi Mata temple nearby.
Patel alleged that Muslim miscreants began throwing stones and glass bottles at the Hindus from roof top of Naaz radio building, while some opened fire at Hindus from the adjoining lanes.
Police reached the spot in some time, opened fire and used teargas shells to quell the rioting mobs, Patel added.
