The Delhi High Court on Thursday rejected the fresh bail petition of two top executives of the Turkish firm Karsan in the Rs 133-crore Urea scam. The Court also dismissed the petition by Karsan executives Tubkay Alankus and Cihankaranci and Brazilian national AE Pinto for separate trial of the case, saying there was no merit in their petition.
Rejecting the bail petition of Alankus and Cihankaranci, Justice SK Agrawal directed the trial court to expedite the trial within six months by holding day-to-day proceedings.
Pinto, however, had not filed any bail application.
The three foreigners accused in the case had sought separate trial on the ground that they had been extradited under Extradition Act. They contended that the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act could not be attracted against them and therefore they could not be tried along with the other accused in the case.
Besides the three foreigners, CBI had chargesheeted six others in the case, including two former executives of National Fertilisers Limited (NFL), CK Ramakrishnan and DS Kanwar, Karsan's Indian agent Sambasiva Rao and Prakash Yadav, son of former Union Fertilizer Minister Ramlakhan Singh Yadav.
