London, Nov 07: In a final step towards hosting the world cup tournament in 2007, the West Indies has officially signed the host agreement with the International Cricket Council, the game's world governing body. The signing ceremony, formally establishing the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) as the official hosts of the ICC World Cup, was held at Kingston, Jamaica yesterday.
WICB president Teddy Griffith said the board had moved "from symbolism to reality" with the signing up of the agreement.
"Now is the time for performance and delivery and that is all that matters henceforth," Griffith said, according to a press release issued by the ICC. "The cricket world cup in the West Indies goes beyond cricket. It is about travel and tourism, it's about entrepreneurship, cultural development, regional integration and lot more," he said.
Prime Minister of Jamaica P J Patterson gave the assurance to the cricketing world that the West Indies would be ready for the mega event and it would be hosted to the highest standards. Bureau Report
