Dhaka, Nov 29: Bangladesh has welcomed the ceasefire agreed upon by India and Pakistan along the Line of Control in Kashmir. ''We welcome the ceasefire,'' Foreign Secretary Shamser Mobin Chowdhury told the Daily Independent paper, describing it as an encouraging development.
The announcement of the ceasefire came on November 25, a day after India promised to respond positively to Pakistan Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali's announcement on November 23 that his country would observe a unilateral ceasefire along the LoC from the day of Eid.
India had also proposed to Pakistan a truce on the AGPL in Siachen and called for immediate talks with the neighbouring country on the expansion of communication links between the two nations.
