Rock Phosphate mixed with organic waste could be utilised directly as a fertiliser for field crops, according to agricultural scientists. Field trials with the Rock Phospate compost called 'Prom' carried out in different crop cultivation have shown better yields than which is available with known chemical fertilisers, a spokesman of the Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals Ltd, (RSMs) said on Monday. Phosphate Research and Development Centre (PRDC), the R and D unit has been making efforts to develop phosphate rich organic manure using high grade rock phosphate and waste organic materials such as farm yard manure, oil cakes, vermi compost, green manure, press mud from sugar industries, pomace from fruit juice industries, agricultural waste like straw of paddy and wheat.
These attempts are aimed at replacing costlier phosphatic fertilizers which are heavily subsidised, he said.
